IMAGE USAGE

The primary hero exterior imagery showcases the 'Scenic Journey' in its panoramic glory. It is essential to ensure the correct train exterior is being used in conjunction with the relevant service.

Hero interior imagery focuses on the experiences of those - travellers engaging in all a 'Scenic Journey' has to offer - comfort, food, visual experience.

Interior imagery can be tailored to its context - the landscape in the window can be selected and adjusted to suit its adjacent content.

TRAVEL BY TRAIN

You'll see so much more of New Zealand if you travel by train. You can sit back in comfort, and watch the scenery glide past through enormous panoramic windows.

There's a spectacular range of scenery waiting for you – rugged coastlines and rolling hills, winding rivers, towering mountains, virgin bush and untouched alpine landscapes – much of which you'd never get to see from the road.

And one of the great things about rail travel is when you get peckish, you can wander down to the café carriage and choose from a delicious range of Kiwi cuisine to enjoy as you savour the landscape.

NORTHERN EXPLORER

Travel through the heart of New Zealand and experience the North Island's extraordinary range of scenery in one journey.

The Northern Explorer takes you through rolling green farmland and virgin bush, past quaint country towns and along rocky coasts. The journey through Tongariro National Park, with its three spectacular volcanic mountains – Tongariro, Ngāuruhoe and Ruapehu – is a highlight, a place of extremes and surprises, where snow-blanketed fields, ancient lava flows and dense beech forests can be seen side by side.

Make it a Scenic Escape and choose from overnight packages, with everything from luxury accommodation to adventurous activities.

COASTAL PACIFIC

Immerse yourself in the rugged coastal architecture of New Zealand. Travelling between Christchurch and Picton, the Coastal Pacific journeys breathtakingly close to the Pacific Ocean, where the roaring, windblown sea meets enormous bush-clad mountains. Stop in Kaikōura for the day and experience some of the colourful township's world famous eco-tourism activities, such as whale watching or swimming with dolphins.

The Coastal Pacific connects with the Interislander ferry and Sounds Air flights, which take you between the port of Picton and our capital city, Wellington, taking in the magnificent Marlborough Sounds.

Choose a Scenic Escape to combine your journey with accommodation or activities such as whale watching.

TRANZALPINE

Climb aboard one of the world's most famous train journeys.

Cross the fertile farmlands of the Canterbury Plains, and enjoy thrilling vistas over deep gorges as you travel alongside the ice-fed Waimakariri River. Traverse the mighty Southern Alps, where spectacular views of the chiselled alpine landscape will take your breath away at every turn.

Descend through thick stands of native beech forest to your destination, Greymouth – a great base for exploring this unspoiled region with its mighty glaciers, wild rivers and famous Punakaiki pancake rocks.

Make it a day trip, or choose a Scenic Escape for overnight packages with accommodation and activities.
